Agriculture sector plays a  crucial role in the process of economic development of a country. It is a backbone for economy of a any country, and has already made a significant contribution to the economic prosperity of advanced countries and its role in the economic development of less developed countries. In the increased contribution of agricultural and productivity output we can not deny the fact that agricultural machineries have a strategic role.

Agricultural machinery is machinery used in farming or other agriculture. With every passing decades, there is a invention of machine which brings a new revolution in agriculture sector. So today we are going to see the journey from traditional tools to latest updated tools and machineries.
There are many types of such equipment, from hand tools and power tools to tractors and the countless kinds of farm implements that they tow or operate. Diverse arrays of equipment are used in both organic and nonorganic farming. Especially since the advent of mechanised agriculture, agricultural machinery is an indispensable part of how the world is fed.

Agricultural machines have been designed for practically every stage of the agricultural process. They include machines for tilling the soil, planting seeds, irrigating the land, cultivating crops, protecting them from pests and weeds, harvesting, threshing grain, livestock feeding, and sorting and packaging the products.



It all started with bare hands,perhaps aided by stick and stones, later tools like knives,scythes, plows were developed, they were used in agricultura for thousands of years. The Industrial Revolution led to advances in agricultural technology and development of more complicated machines, farming methods took a great leap forward. Traditional methods were replaced by new invented machines such as Instead of harvesting grain by hand with a sharp blade, wheeled machines cut a continuous swath. Instead of threshing the grain by beating it with sticks, threshing machines separated the seeds from the heads and stalks.With the invention of steam power came the steam-powered tractor, a multipurpose, mobile energy source that was the ground-crawling cousin of the steam locomotive. Agricultural steam engines took over the heavy pulling work of horses. They were also equipped with a pulley that could power stationary machines via the use of a long belt. The steam-powered behemoths could provide a tremendous amount of power, because of both their size and their low gear ratios.

The next generation of tractors was powered by gasoline (and later) diesel engines. These engines also contributed to the development of the self-propelled, combined harvester and thresher or combine, for short. Instead of cutting the grain stalks and transporting them to a stationary threshing machine, these combines could cut, thresh, and separate the grain while moving continuously through the field. 


Types of Agricultural machinery: 

Different machines are used for different process involved in agriculture.

Tractor and power: A tractor is an engineering vehicle specifically designed to deliver at a high tractive effort (or torque) at slow speeds, for the purposes of hauling a trailer or machinery used in agriculture or construction.


Types of tractor:

Utility Tractor:

It is a general type of tractor used for ploughing and pulling any other equipment using its drive. It is very useful for farmers due to its multi uses. Raw Crop Tractor:

The orchard type tractor is compact and no part of these machines hangs or protrudes outside the surface. These types of tractor have increased height so that plucking of fruits become easy. The small size of the tractor makes moving between trucks easy.


Soil Cultivation:

The soil cultivator is the attachment for preparing soil, It is incredibly versatile attachment can be used to cultivate and level soil as well as blend landscape materials, compost and fertilizer. This attachment will also covered the unwanted such as stones, soil clods and grass. It transform rough terrain into a perfect planting bed in one pass.

Tillage Planter:

A tillage planter comes in handy for hard agricultural land that cannot be shifted easily using a plough. This piece of equipment is meant to sow seeds in the ground without requiring any prior tillage.


Fertilizing & Pest Control:

Fertilizer is an essential requirement for the healthy growth of crops. A fertilizer distributor only requires the farmer to add the manure in dump tube and spread it around his field.

Types of Irrigation Machines:

  • Dripper: Drip irrigation systems distribute water through a network of valves, pipes, tubing, and emitters. The goal is to place water directly into the root zone and minimize evaporation.
  • Sprinkler system
  • Center pivot irrigation
  • Hydroponics
  • Harvesters: which include thresher, combine machinery, conveyor belts, cotton pickers, corn, cane and bean harvester, gleaner, gravity wagons, swathers and diggers
  • haying machines and loaders which include rakers, balers, bale movers, mowers, backhoe and others.
  • Packing: This equipment is used to pack hay or cereal crops into bales. The complex mechanism inside the machine sure saves a lot of time for farmers who need to bundle up their forage. With these modern tools farming has become more technical and advanced science rather than an art. Farmers  are using them for improving productivity and efficiency.
