Tadano Ltd. also known as Tadano is the largest Japan-based manufacturer of cranes and aerial work platforms. The company is the seventh largest crane manufacturer in the world. Masuo Tadano, the founder of the company, started as a steel fabricator in 1919 at Fujitsuka-cho, Takamatsu, Japan later in 1948, he founded TADANO Ltd. and set up the first manufacturing plant of cargo handling equipment, in the following years the company expanded manufacturing to include various industrial equipment.

 

History

1919s - 1960s :

In 1919, Masuo Tadano, started as a steel fabricator at Fujitsuka-cho, Takamatsu, Japan. In 1948,Tadano Iron Works Co., Ltd. was established in Takamatsu, Japan by Masuo Tadano, who serves as the first company president.In1950 Tadano invented railroad track maintenance machine, obtains patent and began its production for delivery to Japan National Railways.1954 started development of hydraulic industrial machines and Tadano introduces Japan's first hydraulic truck crane, the OC-2, with a 2-ton lifting capacity in 1955. In 1960, TADANO successfully manufactured an export model of hydraulic truck crane and exported to Indonesia.

 

1961s - 1990s :

In 1963, Tadano constructs the company's new head office building in Takamatsu, Japan. And also introduces the TM loader cranes series. In 1970 Tadano introduced Japan's first hydraulic rough terrain crane, the TR-150, with a 15-ton lifting capacity and the TG truck crane series in 1971. Japan's first moment load indicator (a safety device for preventing crane overload) was developed and Tadano Listed Company's shares on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Osaka Securities Exchange. In 1973 company established its first overseas subsidiary, Tadano International (Europe) B.V. in the Netherlands. Began production at Shido Plant in Sanuki City, Japan. Shido later became the primary production plant for Tadano's rough terrain cranes till date. In 1983 Tadano's first aerial work platforms was introduced and the Beijing Representative Office in China established in 1984.In 1989 Changes corporate name to Tadano Ltd. Acquires Shikoku Metal Working Co., Ltd. (currently Tadano Ilec Ltd.) and also acquired FAUN AG (currently Tadano Faun GmbH), a German crane and specialized vehicle manufacturer in 1990 and began full-scale all terrain crane development and production.

 

1991s - Present :

In 1992, Tadano introduces the AR all terrain crane series. In 1991 Begins Moai Statue Restoration Project at Ahu Tongariki on Easter Island. Introduces the AR all terrain crane series in 1992 and Tadano America Corporation in Texas, USA in 1993. Begins full-scale sales of mobile cranes in the North American market. 1994 introduces the Super Deck aerial work platform series in 1994 and the CREVO rough terrain crane series 1995. In 1996 establishes Tadano-Multico (S.E. Asia) Pte Ltd. (currently Tadano Asia Pte Ltd.) in Singapore. In July 1996, TADANO received the ISO9001 certificate for quality from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) of the U.K. The ISO9000 series is a set of uniform standards, determined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which apply not to a

specific product, but to the quality assurance and quality management systems of a company. The ISO9001 covers more categories than any other in the series, including quality assurance systems for design, development, production, installation, and servicing. The certification has raised global recognition of product reliability at TADANO.

In 1997 constructs the Technical Research Center in Takamatsu, Japan. In 1998 introduces the AR-5500M, the largest-capacity all terrain crane made anywhere in Japan, with a 550-ton lifting capacity and receives an award from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Machine Industry for the development of high-performance aerial work platforms using fuzzy control. In 2000 acquires Kyowa Kogyo, Inc. In 2003 established BQ-Tadano (Beijing) Crane Co., Ltd., China's first joint company for the manufacture of construction cranes. BQ-Tadano becomes the key manufacturing and sales location in China for Tadano's truck cranes. Establishes the Tadano Middle East Representative Office in Dubai, UAE.
