Japan Engine Associations

Japan Land Engine Manufacturers Association (Lema):

Japan Land Engine Manufacturers Association was founded in 1948 as a membership organization, which includes engine manufacturers and engine component manufacturers. The principal function of the association is to enhance the technology in design and production of engines.

The association vigorously supports the internal combustion engine industry for applications other than onroad vehicles and locomotives. In appreciation of the achievements of the association it was granted the authorization by the Minister of International Trade and Industry to be incorporated in 1965.

It became necessary to show that LEMA is representative trade association in Japan because the activity of LEMA members has not been limited in Japanese local market but expanded into the whole world, especially in the US, Europe and Asia. Therefore, LEMA changed the name from "Land Engine Manufacturer Association" to "Japan Land Engine Manufacturers Association" in February 1999, under the authorization of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (existing Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry).

Objective:

LEMA has been instrumental in promoting the sound development of the land engine industry in Japan. As the engine industry expands, LEMA plans to ensure further smooth development for its members and all the other related industries that employ land engines in their business. LEMA's various committees are constantly reviewing and evaluating the activity of this industry.

Task:

  1. Investigation on the situation of production, trade, distribution and market
  2. Support and manage research and development on technical issues
  3. Engagement in development and popularization of industrial standards
