FAQ for Auction

It is a type of sale in which the price is discovered through the process of competitive and open bidding, the price is neither set nor arrived at by negotiation.
No, JCT is not a member of any Auction house. The exporters registered at JCT may be the members of auction house.
There are various steps involved in the Auction process:

  1. The auctioneer inspects all the vehicles properly before they can be auctioned, because the reputation of an auction house is in its accuracy of accessing vehicle condition.
  2. Vehicles are listed once they are passed through inspection.
  3. The bidding is done for the vehicles present in the auction by the members of the auction house and the highest bid wins.

The Auction system allows people to have access to information, but to keep the auctions orderly only professionals are able to bid. Individuals though cannot directly use auto auctions, but must go through those holding auction membership. In Japanese law, only dealerships may become members to auto auctions.
You need to make some payment to your dealer who is a member of the Auction house, the payment depends on the dealer whether he requires you to pay full amount or some part of the total amount of Car.
The dealers will inform you to pay the required amount prior to the date of Auction and once the amount reflects in his bank they will confirm the same and bid for your desired car in the auction.
The cars available in the Auction are carefully inspected according to the Inspection sheet as the reputation of the auction house is in its accuracy of accessing the
If the bid is won by your dealer then the vehicle will be shipped to you else if you lose the bid then the dealer may return your money back or find other vehicle for you.
Some of salient benefits of auctioned Japanese used cars are:

Low Price - Owning used cars is expensive in Japan! This causes used cars to be sold early and cheap - the longer one keeps a car in Japan, the more it will cost;

Efficient sales system. Reselling cars has become a well developed system;

Safety - all those involve in vehicle auction and export process are accountable and the market overall is trustworthy;

High Supply - around 150,000 cars are offered weekly for bidding;

High Standards - Vehicles in Japan are maintained very well and used lightly and independent reviews of a car's condition is a perquisite of selling it in auction;

More Equipment - Japanese vehicles contain what in most countries consider "extras”, for example, navigation systems and alloy wheels.

There are following disadvantages of buying a car from auction:

  • The car you buy could have unknown problems
  • There are no warranties on what you buy. All cars and trucks are sold without any warranty.
  • The buyer's purchase fees (fees added to your bidding price) raise the purchase price. You do not pay these fees when buying from a private seller.
  • You do not get to test drive the car. You test drive after you have made the purchase. Prior to the purchase you have to just make an educated decision whether or not to buy a particular vehicle.
  • The resale value of an auction history car is typically less than what you would pay for a private car.

The auctions fall within one of four categories:

Independent Company Auctions: Are generally smaller offering a couple of hundred and over 10,000 cars a month, e.g. NDAA, SAA (Sapporo AA), Zip;

Manufacture/Dealer/Rental Auctions: Set up by major dealers and/or manufactures to sell off used cars from different places e.g. Toyota dealers can sell off trade-in cars at a TAA and Rental companies, such as ORIX, will have auctions to sell off their old vehicles. Other examples would be SUAA (Subaru), SAA (Suzuki AA), HAA (Honda AA), and NAA (Nissan).

Auction Groups: Control large market share, are organized either as a union of independent auction, a single company, or subsidiaries under one company. Main AA groups are: JU Group, USS Group, and ARAI (also called AAA – Arai Auto Auction) Group.

Online/Satellite Auctions: Operate mainly by internet or TV Satellite, Some have their own stock, and some auction on the behalf of other auction Companies e.g. AUCNET, ASNET, GAO!, and HERO.
