An electric car is an automobile that uses electrical energy stored in batteries instead of petroleum or gasoline. Electric cars are gaining popularity in recent years due to ever increasing oil prices and environment pollution going higher too. Electric vehicles are the only and most desired transportation to keep both in control for present and future.

 

Major car brands around the world are busy inventing new and better models of electric cars and vehicles for the future. Japan being one of the largest auto producers have already launched the green car and still working to improve and add more features.

  • Honda EV PLUS: The Honda EV Plus was the first EV in the United States to be sold with nickel-metal hydride batteries. The Honda EV Plus can comfortably seat four and is powered by a DC brushless motor. It comes equipped with dual air bags, anti-lock brakes, front and rear suspension, air conditioning, and a maximum driving range of 125 miles. This vehicle has a top speed of over 80 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 17.7 seconds.

  • Nissan ALTRA EV: Like the Honda EV Plus, the Nissan Altra is a four-passenger vehicle. Supported like a van with a carrying capacity of 250 pounds, It is uniquely powered by lithium-ion batteries, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 50 mph in less than 12 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 75 mph. This car is very useful for people who have to drive many miles in the course of a day, with a range of 120 miles on a full charge.

  • Toyota RAV4-EV: Toyota developed the RAV4-EV is the vehicle was the first in its class to be mass-produced with nickel-metal hydride batteries, an advanced system to give electric vehicles a greater driving range. The RAV4-EV can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 17 seconds and has a top speed of 79 miles per hour. This combined with all of the standard features such as dual airbags, AM/FM stereo with cassette deck, four wheel drive, and climate control, makes this roomy EV perfect for sport utility fanatics everywhere.

  • Nissan LEAF: Nissan LEAF was named 2011 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show, beating BMW 5-Series and the Audi A8 for the top spot as the 100% zero-emission car. This 5-seater, 5-door hatchback is the world’s first, purpose-built, mass-produced electric car. It has a range of over 100 miles on a full charge claims Nissan, takes around 8 hours to recharge using 220-240V power supply and produces zero tailpipe emissions.

  • Another Electric Car to be on roads soon is SIM-LEI EV: It is said to be in Market by 2013 with much more efficiency and power backup. Electric vehicle specialist SIM-Drive said its four-seater “SIM-LEI” had motors inside each wheel and a super-light frame, allowing for 333 kilometers (207 miles) of motoring on one charge. It can also accelerate from zero to sixty-two in 4.8 seconds, and reach about 93mph. With more room and a longer driving range, the SIM-LEI is more suitable for the family, rather than other electric sports cars.
