Aixam-Mega is a French automobile manufacturer based in Aix-les-Bains, Savoie. It was founded in 1983 to make microcars following the acquisition of Arola. On April 11, 2013, US based Polaris Industries announced that it had acquired Aixam-Mega. AIXAM-MEGA started car racing in the early 1990s, driven by passion and enthusiasm for high-performing mechanics. The MEGA team designs, develops and makes racing cars, putting them to test on a variety of races. At the start of 2000, these challenges stopped,
related to new prospects for AIXAM-MEGA. But the love for car racing is anchored in the company and so, in 2010, MEGA took part once again in the Andros electric Trophy with Soheil Ayari.



The company can trace its history back to the establishment of Arola in 1975, which was acquired by Aixam in 1983 out of administration. In 1984 Aixam launched the new 325D, followed by the 400D in 1985. In 1992 they started making a range of standard sized cars under the Mega brand, but by 2002 this brand was just being applied to a diesel and electric range of microvans and light utility vehicles. D From 1986 to 2002, the Aixam Mega production capacity has more than tripled reaching a record of 15,500 vehicles a year in 2007. In 2009, AIXAM-MEGA faced the economic crisis by stabilising production at 11,200 units, bringing it back up to around 12,000 over the following years. The company’s growth has thus progressed to over 20% as compared with 2002.

In Britain they are classified as a category L7e quadricycle (quad bike) because of their weight and power output. This requires a category B1 licence to legally drive them. In January 2013, the law changed such that special restricted low power versions of the car (Aixam 400) can now be driven by full AM licence holders in the UK. In 2006 Mega launched the electric Mega City at the British International Motor Show and in 2009 acquired the assets of NICE Car Company, which went into administration in 2008. On January 28th, Groupe PSA acquired a 56% stake in Aixam promising to build profit for the company and improve its range. This could allow Aixam to come back into wider European markets. Groupe PSA vowed to keep production running until 2022 when newer Aixam models would be produced at PSA Sochaux Plant



MEGA creates the striking MEGA Track, an all-terrain GT coupe, a unique and powerful vehicle fitted with a V12 engine. This car is characterized by its gigantism, at all levels. Very large (5.07 m long, 2.20 m wide), it is powered by a V12 engine of nearly 408 hp. His size and power allowed him to ride as well on the road as circuit and even to rub off off-road. Indeed, the height of the frame is adjustable to fit the terrain. The 20-inch tires needed for the machine were at its launch the largest car tires: they were specially created by Michelin . Each vehicle was handmade in the
Aix-les-Bains workshop. The first production road car produced by Mega was the Track. It used the Mercedes V12, delivering 394 horsepower to all four wheels. A unique feature of the Track was it’s adjustable ride height. At full height the car rasied its clearance from eight to thirteen inches.



Mega decided to join the small group of manufacturers producing exclusive supercars in 1996. Their acquisition of Monte-Carlo Automobile Ltd included plans to build an exclusive super sports car for both the road and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The French Aixam Group started producing two and four wheel vehicles that could be driven without a license. This production evolved into the micro-car market and, in 1992, a motor sport program was started under the new Mega name. In 1989, Fulvio Maria Ballabio designed a carbon fibre monocoque sports car under the newly established brand MCA (Monte Carlo Automobile). The car being born Monegasque, it was decided to name it the
Centenaire for the 100 year anniversary of the Automobile Club of Monaco. Guglielmo Bellasi Joined him with his experience as a F1 constructor. The car was developed in 5 years. In March 1990, Guglielmo Bellasi travelled to Bologna to sign a contract for Lamborghini to supply its V12.



In 2005 Launched, Aixam Scouty has brought some freshness to the range of the Savoyard manufacturer. This cabriolet without license with targa roof derives from the small Aixam A721. Aixam had already explored the road of the no-license convertible with the Mac. Near a beach car, it was fully discovered, with a simple tarp to protect against the weather. More versatile, Aixam Scouty is also less specific. It shares most of its body parts with the A721 from which it derives. Doors, front fenders, bonnet and tailgate trim are therefore identical. AIXAM Scouty benefits from all this know-how: reinforced aluminum chassis, side protection bars, aluminum roll cage, rigid stiff
top, 3rd brake light. Everything has been thought out to perfect your safety in an optimal way. In addition, Scouty is equipped as standard with sports bucket seats, a spoiler at the rear which gives it even more dynamism and fun.


Aixam Mechanics:

he Aixam 400, 500 and 500.5 are very basic vehicles mechanically by today's standards. There were a variety of engines offered over the years. The diesel is fitted with a Kubota Z482-E two-cylinder 500 cc Industrial engine rated at 11.5 bhp (9 kW; 12 PS). The petrol versions used a Lombardini 505 cc twin-cylinder of approx 19.5 bhp (15 kW 20 PS), later petrol cars were fitted with fuel-injection. Steering is by rack and pinion and has a comparatively low ratio. MacPherson strut suspension is used at the front and semi-trailing arms at the rear. Brakes are by disc and single-piston calipers at the front, with drums at the rear also serving for handbrake function, via cables.
